Hi Folks! Received and responded to this a few minutes ago; ------------------ Hi Patrick! You wrote; > Jerry > > Just because the lady said she made measurements doesn't mean she > understands the modulation scheme or that she knew what she was doing. > FFT analysis does not lie. > > Patrick All measurements aside, does it transmit sound into the body as claimed using ultrasonic transduction?....from my Mark 11 experience, the answer is no. If it was truly ultrasonic and moves through bone, body fluids and skin, then the sound should be detectable by placing the electrode anywhere on the body and cranking it up to a higher amplitude....my Mark 11 does not do this, only when held near the head can you hear what is clearly electrostatic modulation only of the skin. It is after all results that count, not how they are achieved since it is being sold to DO something of use to the buyer. I need to locate Alan again and see what he is doing with his version since it is the one which my friend said he could touch to ANY part of the body and CLEARLY hear the sounds. I tried the Mark 11 and the ONLY place I could hear ANY sound was when it was on my head or neck....my perception is that the skin is vibrating purely from electrostatics. That sound was not in my ear but emanated directly from the skin being touched by the electrode. And to date, the reports I've had on the Thinkman (except the suspect one) all say it doesn't tranmit sound directly into the ear either....maybe people will read the post on the list and report in with their own experiences....nothing like personal experience to prove or disprove whether it works or not. Interesting, I just went to your website http://www.flantech.com and found NO mention of the Neurophone or Thinkman on the main page??? Not even a link to a supplier? A search for neurophone found; http://waami.avmz.uni-wuppertal.de/www.earthpulse.com/products/nphone.html The device stimulates the skin with a vibration which is then understood by the brain in the way sound is heard through the ears - except the ears are not involved. (which means it could be heard without the ears, so I'll have to test mine again and plug up my ears so no sound can be heard via that channel) Simply put, the Flanagan NeurophoneTM can take any sound including speech or music and convert the signal to one which is clearly understood by the person using the device. (Geez, that is about the most noncommital description I've ever read for any product....sounds like Bill Clintons definition of what is, is....'clearly understood'???) ----------------------- Here is the report with the FFT spectrogram which I think everyone interested in such matters should read. http://www.xyz.net/~nohaarp/neuronews.htm The second hearing channel (which was discovered by Dr. Flanagan in 1958) was rediscovered by Dr. Lenhardt and his colleagues. The second channel conducts ultrasonic sound waves through the bones, body fluids or through the skin to a newly discovered alternate hearing organ. (ultrasonics through bones, skin and body fluids means it should work with the electrode placed anywhere on the body) The authors of this report constructed an amplitude modulated ultrasonic transmitter that operated at frequencies ranging from 28 kHz to 90 kHz (28,000 to 90,000 cycles per second) in frequency. The output signal from their device was coupled to the heads of human subjects by means of a piezoelectric ceramic vibrator. All subjects tested heard the modulated signal with clarity. This research is essentially a duplication of Dr. Flanagan's original NeurophoneTM device which he constructed at the age of 13 in the early months of 1958. (coupled TO THE HEAD of human subjects) Dr. Flanagan's original NeurophoneTM patent number 3,393,279 issued on 7.16.68 consisted of a 30 - 50 kHz amplitude modulated ultrasonic oscillator that generated approximately 3,000 volts peak to peak across two mylar plastic insulated electrodes that were placed in contact with the skin. When an audio signal such as music was fed into the device, the music could be heard by a person wearing the electrodes on their skin. The NeurophoneTM hearing sensation feels like the sound is at the center of the head. Tests at Tufts University showed that the skin under the electrodes was caused to vibrate by the energy field. When a stethoscope was placed on the skin next to the electrodes, the audio vibration could easily be heard. (of course, 3,000 volts is electrostatic modulation of acoustic signals so the skin vibrates) If you go to a Radio Shack store, you can get a stereo headphone splitter adapter that allows you to plug two stereo headphones into one output jack on an audio source such as a CD player or cassette tape player. Using the headphone splitter, you can connect both the NeurophoneTM and standard stereo headphones to the audio source at the same time. In order to adjust the volume on the headphones separately from the NeurophoneTM volume, you should use a stereo headset that has its own inline volume control. First adjust the sound on the NeurophoneTM using the volume control on the audio source until you can hear the sound through the NeurophoneTM. Then turn up the volume on the headset until it is at a comfortable level. At this point you are hearing through the headset and the NeurophoneTM at the same time. After a while, unplug the NeurophoneTM crystal set and feel the difference. There is a profound difference. The NeurophoneTM adds an extended hearing capability to any sound source. This test dramatically demonstrates the perceptual difference between the two hearing channels. (I have NOT done this test, but I will do so using my Mark 11 and see if there is indeed a 'profund difference' and I'll post back to you and to the list whatever happens.) Two very early files which fed us and others for years about the Neurophone from the KeelyNet BBS in 1993; http://www.spiritweb.org/KeelyNet/Biology/neuroph1.asc.html http://www.spiritweb.org/KeelyNet/Biology/neuroph1.asc.html Thanks Patrick for your response, I'm just trying to get clear on exactly what the device is being claimed to do and how it can be tested so there is NO doubt it is working and not some subjective, religious type, believer experience. By that, I mean if you don't believe in it, it won't work for you. On rereading much of this material, I am confused because the literature indicates the Neurophone transmits an ultrasonic modulated sound that you can hear and understand at that moment, in realtime, meaning you could remove the audio and listen PURELY to the neurophone version with full clarity. Clearly a lot of confusion since the claim does not match what people seem to be experiencing, including myself. To my view, it really doesn't matter HOW it is being achieved, just pin down WHAT is being achieved. -- Jerry Wayne Decker / jdecker@keelynet.com http://keelynet.com / "From an Art to a Science" Voice : (214) 324-8741 / FAX : (214) 324-3501 KeelyNet - PO BOX 870716 - Mesquite - Republic of Texas - 75187 ------------------------------------------------------------- To leave this list, email with the body text: leave Interact list archives and on line subscription forms are at http://keelynet.com/interact/ -------------------------------------------------------------
